| | | The new isatphone by Inmarsat is a lightweight, pocket-sized handset that offers both voice and data over Inmarsat and 900 MHz GSM cellular networks. Satellite coverage is currently available in parts of The Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East and should be expanded by the end of the year.
The isat satellite phone handset is lightweight and pocket-sized, and has a rugged design to cope with demanding environments. The service comes with additional features such as call hold/waiting, call forwarding, conference calls for up to five participants and, in GSM mode, SMS.
Use of the phone in satellite mode requires a clear view of the sky unobstructed by buildings, trees, or terrain. The satellites are low on the horizon so be careful to use the phone only in areas with an unobstructed view of the horizon. The map shown represents expected coverage but does not represent a guarantee of service.

Postpaid Service
Postpaid isat satellite service is available for $45 a month with zero minutes per month, or $140 a month with 120 minutes per month (to landlines).
Calls to landlines are charged at 82¢ a minute and calls to international cellular phones cost 88¢ per minute.
All calls to BGAN units are $1.50 per minute. Calls to other isat phones are $1.63 per minute, and calls to Iridium or Globalstar phones are $4.28 per minute. Calls to Thuraya satellite phones are billed at $3 a minute. Currently voicemail is not available and service in the USA and Canada has not officially been launched, so units should not be activated for that purpose.
